What do instagram models and large databases have in common?

They both require validation and use filters.

In the coming decade, data will be at the heart of transformative technologies that will affect every sector. The 'Next Data Decade' will change how businesses collect, analyse and act on information to drive positive change and deliver future products and services in new and personalised ways.

So, what business decisions can you use data for? Instead of letting your data sit in dashboards and databases that never get used, you can use it to strengthen your business’ growth strategy to make better decisions such as:
- Finance: What’s the most cost-effective way to hire staff? Or the cheapest way to promote a new product?
- Growth: How do you improve customer loyalty? What product/services is likely to impact your business’ goals?
- Marketing and sales: Which advertising channel gets the best ROI? Which sales activity generates more leads?
- Customer service: What’s a cost-effective way to handle enquires? How can you improve response times?

Data literacy can empower founders to make fact-based analytic decisions that are grounded in reality rather than decisions based on just tradition or gut feeling. Our upcoming workshop on August 27th with Griffith University's Regional Innovation Data Lab Program Director, Dr Tom Nik Vanherlst will enable you to leverage the data and the information you capture to make strategic data-driven decisions.

The Ekka is usually a chance for the country to come to the city. It's an annual celebration which allows the wonderful Queensland farmers and regional businesses to showcase their products and talk with us about their lives and work.  And who doesn't love patting the animals, seeing the fresh produce displays and tucking into a Strawberry Sundae?

For the first time ever, the Ekka is being offered online. A mammoth business model change and pivot for all involved and we're so delighted that our August plans can still involve showbags, baby animals, Bertie Beetles and strawberry sundaes.

Ekka Online launched on August 7 and will run for 10 days, streaming live music, a 360-degree animal nursery, baking demonstrations, dog shows and all sorts of other classic Ekka activities. Businesses have used this opportunity to pivot and disrupt their business models. You will still be able to eat strawberry sundaes, with pop-up stalls at Brisbane Showgrounds, King George Square and other sites across the city. We've also heard that some of the pop-ups will also have dagwood dogs!

Strawberry Sundaes are also available as DIY at-home kits! Ekka is using four tonnes of strawberries and 10 tonnes of fresh ice-cream to produce 60,000 sundaes with all the proceeds going towards The Common Good, a medical-research initiative of the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
